In just under two weeks it’s Presidents’ Day, which for many parents means a day off from work and for many kids a day off from school and other activities. Sure, an extra family day is fantastic—the perfect excuse for a trip to a museum or movie, or an extra day to hang out and get organized. But for many kids, Presidents’ Day means Presidents’ Week—and a whole five days off from school. If this sounds familiar, you’re probably looking for a way to keep your kids busy and entertained while you get a much-needed break or head to work as usual.
That’s where February camps and activities come in! Many NYC kids’ programs save the day by offering kids a way to not only stay busy during vacation week, but also to learn and have fun too! If your kids are on vacation February 15–19, here are some awesome programs on Kidz Central Station to check out.
Theater Camp. Can you think of anything more fun for your little one than pretending to be part of his or her favorite fairy tale? At Galli Theater’s week long Holiday Theater Camp in NYC’s Chelsea neighborhood, kids kids age 4–9 years old can do just that. They’ll select a special role in a chosen fairy tale, rehearse and rehearse some more, and don dreamy costumes in order to look and feel the part. Then, at the end of the session, they’ll perform in a special show for all of their family and friends! During this fun program, kids won’t miss school a bit.
Coding and Robotics Camp If your child can’t get enough of science and coding, Bricks 4 Kidz’s February Break camp is a definite MUST. Using a special robot named DASH and LEGO bricks for building, this camp for kids in grades K–5 is not just educational, but fun too! The camp runs Monday through Friday from 9am–4pm in Bricks 4 Kidz’s brand new Chelsea space, and extended day is available for just $15. Plus, if you sign up now, you’ll save $250 with the program’s early bird rate!
A Snowy Summer Vacation! At Green Ivy Enrichment, February Break is the opportunity to pretend it’s summer, even though it’s wintery and cold outside! Kids partake in a variety of fun activities throughout the week, such as music, art, improv, and science, and they can be as young as 2.5 years old to attend! Not only is the camp a great way to keep kids busy, but it’s also super flexible to fit your schedule. Choose from a half-or full day of camp or sign up for one day or five—either way, your child will have a blast!
Drop-Off Chocolate Workshops. If you aren’t necessarily looking for a full week of activities and just a day or two will do, Chocolate Works Upper East Side’s drop-off chocolate parties will definitely do the trick. On Monday, February 15, kids (age four and up) will decorate a chocolate mold of choice and a chocolate flag for Presidents’ Day, plus they’ll enjoy a scrumptious pizza lunch. Then, on Tuesday, February 16, the activity of the day will be decorating delicious chocolate pizzas followed by gobbling up a slice at a real cheese pizza party. Both workshops are two hours long, which gives mom and dad just enough time to enjoy their own Presidents’ Week activities.
Drop-In Art Classes. During February Break, Claire’s Creative Adventures is offering something pretty special for kids! While you normally have to sign up for a semester of the program’s art classes, during February Break, kids can drop-in on select Art Adventures sessions at a special rate of $45! There are art/French classes for kids age 3.5–7 and a studio drop-in for the older set (age 8–13), all of which introduce kids to modern artists and allow them to use their imaginations to create fun projects using a variety of cool materials. What’s great: if your child likes the class, you can still sign up for the semester at a prorated price!
